Increase in calls for help on disciplinary procedures and tribunals
“Employment law questions put to lawyers at an employers' organisation increased at double the rate of other legal enquiries last year and were dominated by businesses seeking clarification about new disciplinary procedures.
More than 11,000 employers called the FSB to query the procedures in 2004 - up by 25 per cent year-on-year.
Queries about employment tribunals also shot up 32 per cent.
Sandy Harris, FSB Member Services Chairman said: “Small businesses have got the legal blues. On the one hand, the rate of change of employment law makes it virtually impossible for even the most conscientious employer to keep up. On the other, employees are more litigious than ever before armed with 80 different types of complaint that they can bring against their employer.”
